Grand Canyon Railway, Hotel, & RV Park @ Williams, Arizona
601 West Franklin Avenue
Williams, Arizona 86046
Opinion: Recommended as a place to stay while visiting the south rim of the Grand Canyon. However, if train noise bothers you then it is not for you. The railway, hotel, & RV park are located 65 miles (one way) from the Grand Canyon. Sites are not private but there is a little distance between you and your neighbor.
When traveling to Williams, Arizona we recommend you take the interstate (I-17) instead of taking Highway 89A. Highway 89A is more exciting, with beautiful scenery (we’re told) but with hairpin switchbacks and sheer drop offs.
Amenities: Walking distance to town and historic Route 66, on location convenience store, laundry, pet resort (daycare or short term care), shuttle service, covered pavilion with gas grills, wi-fi, cable tv, playground, volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, Williams Depot, Depot Gift Shop, swimming pool, hot tub, fitness room, pub, and cafe.
If you need to get your hair done, I highly recommend taking the short walk (0.3 miles) to “The Salon at Six One Four” and get the owner, Kristina Henson, to do your hair. (It’s a small shop in the Safeway parking lot.) Traveling the way we do, I have had some strange experiences getting my hair done, but she is the best! (Once in New Mexico the stylist told me she “fried” my hair to make it look thicker.)
I also recommend traveling a little outside of town to “Kicks on Route 66” for a wonderful meal. The food was fresh, well prepared, and it was a very nice place to stop and, in our case, watch the snow fall.
Dates of Stay: April 3-8, 2017
Overview of Sites: 134 RV pads with full hookups – all sites range in length but the park can accommodate all RVs, drive through and back-in sites, mostly level sites, asphalt pads, and interior roads are paved. Sites 101-137 are right next to the train tracks.
Laundry: Nice laundry on site with four washers and dryers.
Restrooms: Clean and well stocked restrooms/showers.
Rate: We paid $35.60 for full hookups using our Passport America discount.
Our Site/Phone/TV: Site 108 (next to the train tracks) – Verizon and AT&T worked for phone, wi-fi (we couldn’t connect consistently), & cable tv
Elevation/Landscape/Terrain: Williams, Arizona is located at about 7,300 feet. The RV park is next to the Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel and is a large parking lot with a small lava rock space with a small tree between sites.
Lighting/Noise: No obtrusive lighting but trains run throughout the night. (Train noise didn’t bother us but we were aware of it – another good reason to keep the windows closed at night.)
Favorite Camper Site: None
RV Office: Reservations are made by calling 928-635-4010 ext. 3300
