Wandering Around Wildwood, FL… Again (March 28 – April 4)

Three Flags RV Resort in Wildwood

We returned to Three Flags RV Resort in Wildwood, Florida for two weeks. You may remember we were here previously and we decided we needed a little time to kick back and get a few things done so here we are for a return visit. It is centrally located so that we can do a few day trips and it is also the end of our Thousand Trails membership so we got to camp for free.

Withlacoochee State Trail (Inverness, Florida – right outside Wildwood)
Of course, no trip to this part of Florida would be complete without riding our bikes on the longest paved rail-to-trail in Florida. It really is a beautiful trail and we had great weather for our rides. The only negative was this is spring and the caterpillars were out in full force, hanging down from the tree canopy.

The Villages near Wildwood
We only spent a little time at the Villages, one of the largest 55+ active retirement communities in the world. We would go there to explore their town squares or to attend their Farmers Markets. (The community still reminds us of “The Prisoner.”)

Weeki Wachee Springs, Spring Hill, Florida
Don’s Mom and Dad liked to tell stories about going to Florida and seeing the mermaids at Weeki Wachee Springs. We couldn’t be this close and not go – so go we did. It was fun thinking that his parents had once been there and watched the show and here we were years later doing the same thing.

Shopping at Farmer’s Markets – Or Trying To
We made two attempts at hitting the nearby farmer’s markets, both were a bust. One was strictly an arts and crafts market, and the other was an Easter celebration for the kids. We wonder why they were called Farmer’s Markets.

Taking Time to ReCharge and Get Some Things Done
There’s definitely a balance to travel that takes a long time to figure out – sometimes you need to just stop and get some things done! It took us a long time to give ourselves permission to slow down, miss some things (gasp!), enjoy the journey for what it is, and live at a slower pace.

This was one of those stops – we needed to figure out our taxes, take care of various paperwork, and recharge.
Happy Trails
